Beauty Haul and Mini Review
As I looked at my rather large for-a-non-makeup-artist makeup collection, I decided to make one of my 2012 resolutions to be that I wouldn't buy anymore makeup and try to use up what I already had! Yeah - that didn't last too long! How can I possibly keep that resolution when there are so many new products coming out on both the drug level as well as high end?
There has been a lot of buzz about 2 drugstore products in particular that caught my eye - the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hour cream eyeshadows and the L'Oreal Infalliable eyeshadows. I just happened to pick up a couple of each while at CVS recently.
I picked up 2 of the L'Oreal Infalliable eyeshadows in #888 Iced Latte and #891 Continuous Cocoa and 3 of the Maybelline Color Tattto's in #25 Bad to the Bronze, #35 Tough as Taupe, and #30 Pomegranate Punk.
Here are some swatches:
So far, I have used both L'Oreal eyeshadows in a very simple, but polished look. The colors have very nice payoff and are very pigmented. I had heard from other reviewers that you have to apply some pressure to get the right color payoff which is what I did and the colors looked rich and pigmented. I created a simple look with these 2 shadows by placing Iced Latte all over my lid fading up to my brow bone, and then I placed Continuous Cocoa in a "V" shape using a small pencil brush and blended it inwards using a fluffy blending brush. I continued to make a "V" and blended, "V" and blend until I got the look I desired. Added some black gel liner on top lash line, Kohl liner on the top and bottom waterlines, some of the Continuous Cocoa on the bottom lash line with a small smudger brush, and finally added 2 coats of my Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara. These are nice eyeshadows - very rich in color and pigmented, easy to blend out and quite possibly a great product to use when you don't have a lot of time in the morning to get ready and get out the door. There are a lot of colors available in different finishes, great for all skin tones. Definitely worth a try!
I have also slightly tested the Color Tattoo's which seems to me to be a perfect dupe for the MAC Paint Pots. These work great as an all over lid color by itself or as an eyeshadow base to make other colors "pop" when placed on top of these cream shadows. They are thick and creamy which is very similar to the MAC Paint Pots. They are also super pigmented and rich in color. Tough as Taupe is a nice grayish, mushroom-y color. It has a matte finish to it and blends out easily with either your finger or with a brush. Bad to the Bronze has a gorgeous goldish-taupey hue to it. This cream shadow looks awesome alone on the lid blended it out with a matte brown eyeshadow, but would also look awesome with an eyeshadow on top of it - I can see this becoming another one of my go-to looks when I don't have a lot of time in the morning. The last one I picked up was Pomegranate Punk which is a beautiful plummy-burgundy color. There is a slight sheen to it - a light shimmer but this just enhances the gorgeous color on your lid. Again, this could be used alone on the lid or as a base for another eyeshadow (I used MAC Nocturnelle over it and it looked amazing). There are a good variety of colors- a few matte shades, a few neutral shades, and a good selection of brighter colors that can work on any skin color. These are a great dupe for the MAC Paint Pots but for half the price. These retail for $7.99 each while the MAC Paint Pots retail for $17.50. I would definitely recommend picking up one or a few of these Color Tattoo's while they are still available. These could be a great product for a busy mom to just place on the lid, blend it out with your finger, and add a couple of coats of mascara and you're done. Perfect for a busy mom!
