The Skinny Rules

Image
Like most families that are full of hungry kids - I am a member of Costco and every month I get their magazine called The Costco Connection.  Each month I look forward to the seasonal recipes and some of the featured articles.  This month, they have a great article on Bob Harper - you might recognize him as the hunky, tatted up trainer on The Biggest Loser.  He has just written a cookbook called The Skinny Rules: The Simple, Nonnegotiable Principles for Getting to Thin.   In this cookbook, Bob lists his "nonnegotiable rules" that can lead to successful weight loss.  Oddly enough, these are the same "rules" that I give to my clients when I'm coaching them for successful, healthy weight loss too!  These rules are easy to follow and can lead to healthy, attainable weight loss without trying too hard (but don't forget to add in some sort of physical activity daily to make the weight come off faster!). The New Mom's Diet Plan

Image
I recently came across this great article in Parenting magazine that pretty much sums up all of the "diet" advice I give to my patients and "new mommy" friends who are looking to lose that baby weight.  The key is to keep it simple and don't over think it - it's not a DIET but rather a behavioral and lifestyle modification (Psst - diets don't last long and they don't work - changing the way you do things and being consistent works!).  These are tips that can be easily adapted to your current lifestyle and can help keep your weight in check year after year.  I hope that you find this article helpful...Enjoy. http://www.parenting.com/article/the-hungry-new-moms-diet-plan

Banishing Mommy Guilt!

There was a great segment on the Today Show this morning about "Mommy Guilt".  Not only did the segment highlight the need for mom's to start taking the time to take care of themselves, but also that many more mom's are starting to let go of the guilt and realize that they are important and need to treat themselves as well.  We mom's spend so much taking care of our families but not enough time for ourselves.  And how can we be good role models to our kids when we can't practice what we preach?  We tell our kids to get enough sleep, eat healthy, nutritious foods, exercise, the importance of good hygiene, etc...but now we need to do all of that for ourselves.  Lord knows that we make enough sacrifices but I think taking an extra 5 minutes here or there for the benefit of ourselves and our families is a good thing.  It is time to let go of that mommy guilt and realize that we need to take time out for ourselves - a happy and healthy woman is a ...

Great discount website for mommies!

There are so many "discount" websites out there that features big brand companies selling high ticket items (or services) for discounted prices.  I love these sites but there is a discount site specifically for mommies called Zulily.com .  I love this site - not only do they feature great deals for mommies, but also clothing, shoes, toys and more for babies and kids.  My kids love Crocs but I hate paying full price for these - but why should I when I can buy them off of Zulily for half the price!  I have bought good quality snow/rain boots for my twins, organization tools for the family, baby shower gifts for friends, as well as clothing and shoes for myself.  The shipping prices are pretty reasonable (usually under $10.00) considering how much you are saving on the items that you are buying.  If you are like me and are always looking for a great deal or sale, then this is the perfect site for you....

Today is my twins' 5th birthday!!

Image
I cant believe how fast time flies but today is my twins' 5th birthday!  Where did the time go?  I feel like my babies are growing up so fast and there are so many things that I want them to experience before they get too big to appreciate it.  I decided to start a blog on this milestone so I can document as many memories and experiences as I can as well as share my life experiences with you as a busy mom of 3 and as a working professional. I remember bringing home Shaan and Ishani and thinking "how am I supposed to take care of these little beings?"  After all, Shaan was only 3lbs 15oz and Ishani was 4lb when we were discharged from the hospital.  I swear the twins lived in preemie clothes for the first 4 months of their life! But we tried to enjoy every moment we could - well, I cant actually remember since I was in a sleep induced haze but from the pictures I have, it looked like we enjoyed each moment.  The twins always lagged in...
