Favorites - January 2013

Just like every month past, January just seemed to fly right on by!  One of my resolutions for 2013 is not to buy any new makeup before using up what I already have in my stash.  Yeah that resolution only lasted about 2 weeks before I broke down and bought a couple of new items.  But in my defense, this resolution really applies to me not buying any more eye shadows/palettes.  I have more eye shadows than any one woman, who is not a professional makeup artist, should own.  I have just about all the colors I need and unless a new shadow/palette really "WOWS" me, I'll have to pass on that one.  But I did find a few items that did peak my curiosity not to mention that I had heard a lot of great things about  these products.

The first product is the L'Oreal True Match liquid foundation.  I know that this foundation has been out on the market FOREVER and I had heard so many positive reviews on this drugstore foundation but I always passed on this because I have so many other foundations that I really didn't see the need to add this one to my foundation.  But while at my local CVS, with coupons in hand, I saw that they were on sale BOGO50% off so I decided to try out the foundation with the coordinating setting powder.  I have to say that I am quite impressed with the formulation, finish, longevity and range of colors of this product.  This product blends in beautifully on my skin (I applied it with my fingers) and set in a very natural, almost matte finish.  I have combo-oily skin and I noticed that at the end of the day, just the slightest bit of shine had peaked through in my T-zone with no signs of cracking or wearing away in spots.  This lasted a good 12 hours on me without oxidizing and still looked amazing and flawless from morning till night.  This one's a keeper!

While at Sephora I was perusing the Anastasia brow products when a MUA came up to me and asked me if I needed help.  I told her that I was looking for a pencil type product for applying my brows (since I have been using a brush and powder/brow mousse) and she redirected me to the Hourglass section.  She pointed out a great brow pencil called Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil.  This pencil is shaped like an angled brow brush - flat and angled which is essential for creating natural looking brows.  This pencil combines the look and effects of a pencil, shadow, and wax in an all-in-one brow pencil.  I love that you can used this pencil to fill in sparse areas of your brow while also creating sharp lines to define your brows.  You can then use the other side of the pencil that has the brow brush to help groom your brows and help them look more natural.

I also decided to purchase the Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony.  I actually had been eyeing the Chanel Professional Eyeliner Duo which is the same type of product but the LM product is half the cost but achieves the same results as the Chanel liner.  To be honest with you, it took me a couple of tries before I figured out how to use this product without creating a mess and having the dreaded raccoon eyes.  But once I figured out how much water I needed and how to best apply it, this product makes my lash line look full while tight lining my waterline and it stays put all day!  I like using my Sigma E15 Flat Definer brush with this - this brush helps me to tight line with ease and precision.  Love this duo!

My final favorite product for January is a MAC eyeshadow - Soba.  Why has it taken me so long to realize just how gorgeous this shadow is?  This shadow is the most gorgeous and flattering shade for brown eyes.  It seriously looks like nothing special in the pan but it has truly magical powers when you place it on your lids.  I love wearing this shadow all over my lid with a darker brown shadow (like MAC Mystery, Embark, or Nars Galapagos) in the outer V, blended inwards.  I would describe this shadow as a yellow/golden-y, light brown shade with subtle shimmer and it has a satin finish.  This shadow is so buttery and easy to apply and even easier to blend out.  I have been wearing this shadow just about everyday in some way.  Love it!
